The film ‘Growing our cocoa, raising our voices’ is the result of a participatory video project I coordinated for Fairtrade Africa, Fairtrade Foundation and Fairtrade International. The project is set up as a research on gender in Fairtrade Certified Cocoa Producer Organizations in Côte d’Ivoire, using a participatory video approach. The primary objective of the research is to generate learning on gender and Fairtrade that can be of value to a range of stakeholders within the Fairtrade system. The participatory video approach will aim to capture data in a way that will enable women within Fairtrade cocoa producing communities to share their stories and experiences of gender dynamics within cocoa production and the positive, negative or neutral impact of Fairtrade on their lives as women in communities supported by Fairtrade.
